PATE was responsible for analysis, design and construction management for flood control levees and two major storm water pumping stations with a combined capacity of 1,000,000 GPM. The flood control system was designed to protect low-lying areas of Texas City whose flooding problems were increased by land subsidence. The success of the project was tested shortly after completion when hurricane Alicia deposited more than nine inches of rainfall on the area and resulted in no property damage due to flooding. The pump stations utilized low head, high volume Archimedes Screw pumps (12 foot in diameter). Pump Station A consisted of three pumps; Pump Station B consisted of five pumps. The project also included a levee around the City to protect against hurricane surge tides. Copyright © 2008 Pate Engineers, Inc. |
