White Oak Bayou Regional Flood Control Plan; Houston, TX

The White Oak Bayou Regional Flood Control Plan encompasses a 30-mile channel in a 110 square mile watershed extending across north, central and western Harris County. PATE's first involvement came in the mid-1980s. The master plan developed an alternative to requiring individual detention facilities for specific developments in the White Oak Bayou watershed. This plan not only addressed future development but also provided for reductions in existing flood hazard impacts through channel improvements and regional detention facilities. Section 10 and Section 404 permits were acquired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for construction. Scope of services included surveys, analysis of drainage sub area hydrologic parameters, computer modeling of the main channel and tributary storage-discharge, hydrologic and hydraulic conditions, analysis of numerous bridge and culvert crossings, determination of floodplain and floodway delineations, and mapping of floodplain and floodway, preparation of the Letter of Map Revision reports, maps and documentation for consideration and approval of FEMA.
