This complex urban freeway improvement project extends 2.2 miles west of downtown Houston and was designed in accordance with TxDOT criteria although the engineering design services were funded by METRO of Harris County. The project included freeway widening and at grade and elevated HOV lanes in the freeway median and crossing IH-45. The project scope included topographic survey and mapping, an environmental assessment, schematic design preparation, preparation of parcel acquisition surveys, hydraulic analysis of the existing storm sewer system and proposed improvements, utility relocation design, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses of impacts on White Oak Bayou, bridge layout and design, design of traffic control plans, signage and pavement marking design, and preparation of final plans, specifications, and cost estimate.
