SH45 SE Design/Build TxDOT Toll Road Project

PATE is serving as Lead Engineer for the $154 million design/build toll facility recently awarded by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). This 7.4 mile, four-lane toll road will become an east-west connection between the SH-130/US-183 interchange and I-35 in Travis County, Texas. Engineering services include roadway design, bridge layouts and preliminary bridge design, preliminary drainage studies, preliminary right-of-way (ROW) mapping, typical sections and construction cost estimates. Preliminary engineering was prepared in accordance with TxDOT's latest practices, criteria, specifications, policies, procedures and standards. Geopak was used to design roadway geometrics, cross sections and earthwork quantities. Bridges are designed to provide a 100-year service life and for a 100-year storm event. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Floodplain crossings are designed to minimize increases in water surface elevations with stream crossings in "Zone A" floodplain. Design provided for future roadway widening with rail at the median.

Project included the following:

  • 7-miles of 4-lane concrete pavement with entrance and exit ramps, auxiliary lanes and direct connectors
  • 17 bridges at channels and street crossings
  • Cut and fill retaining walls with heights of 35-ft.
  • Main-lane toll plaza and four-ramp toll plazas
  • Construction phasing and traffic control plan
  • Coordination and approval from FEMA for channel crossings
  • Bridge and roadway designed to meet rail requirements
